BAC Re-AccreditationRegal International College's commitment to providing the highest standards of education have been recognised by being re-accredited by the British Accreditation Council (BAC) in June 2008. For international students, choosing a BAC-accredited college for your studies will ensure that the institution is considered to be bona fide by immigration officials. Indeed from 2009, new regulations are to come into effect which will see visas granted only to students at accredited institutions. Regal International College has been re-accredited until June 2012. |

January 2005 Regal International College spurred on by its students (85% of them are international students) responded to the emergency. |
|
| The college joined forces with Batticaloa Underprivileged Development Society (BUDS), a registered charity (charity number: 1081305) providing relief work in the Eastern Province of Sri Lanka and rose to the challenge of the hour. Regal International College was converted into a temporary call centre and a relief centre for Tsunami Relief effort. Regal students and staff along with the BUDS volunteers embarked on a project collecting funds, medical supplies, food and clothing. Within days they have collected over £50,000 in cash and huge amount of supplies and the first shipment left for Sri Lanka on 6th January 2005. Regal’s staff and students are overwhelmed by the response and the college premises were overflowing with supplies. As a result the college could not reopen after the Christmas vacation as planned on the 4th of January and will reopen on the 10th instead. The tutors of Regal are determined to make up for the lost time for students. “As an international college with students from over 35 countries, there was never any question of Regal standing idly by in the aftermath of this unprecedented human catastrophe” commented Samithamby Hariraman, Principal. Regal will continue to collect cash donations for the tsunami appeal. Anyone wishing to help can send their donations to the college or pay it directly into the bank account of the appeal, the details of which are as follows: Account Name: BUDS
or Batticaloa Underprivileged Development Society Regal International College extends its gratitude to all who had made donations of cash and goods and those gave up their valuable time to help us in many ways during this project. |

IT driving licence goes to school
THE EUROPEAN Computer Driving Licence® (ECDL) IT skills qualification
is now being targeted at the education sector. The qualification, run in the
UK by the BCS, is to be offered to pre-GCSE pupils, the 12 to 14 age group.
Pete Bayley,
ECDL UK director, says, ‘With computing so all-pervading we feel that
the time is right to offer school children an opportunity to gain a recognised
qualification to demonstrate their competence. With this in mind, schools
are being offered the opportunity to become accredited test centres for free.’
The ECDL has already seen an influx of younger users. Abhiram Sahathevan, aged 12, completed the qualification this August, having undertaken the qualification to fill the spare time he had available. He was awarded his certificate after completing the seven modules: basic concepts of IT, using the computer and managing files, word processing, spreadsheets, database, presentation, and information and communication.
Siva Kumar, director of
the Regal International College, where Abhiram Sahathevan attended
classes, says, ‘I am really proud of him. He is really amazing and fast.’

14th April 2003 Regal International College has been awarded accreditation by the British Accreditation Council.
Regal International College (REGAL) has been awarded accreditation by the British Accreditation Council for Independent Further and Higher Education (BAC) on 11th April 2003.
REGAL is engaged in the delivery of quality education, training and consultancy services. REGAL operates in a competitive market place with providers of varying quality. Potential students especially from overseas are deluged with a variety of colleges and courses in the UK. Evaluating these colleges and courses from a distance is made that much more difficult. Invariably many make the wrong choice, with serious consequences to their career and finances. A readily recognisable quality standard unquestionably will aid students to avoid such pitfalls.
"We are proud to have achieved this recognition from the British Accreditation Council. This underlines our commitment to providing quality education at an affordable price. Potential students from UK and overseas need have no concerns about joining REGAL. The BAC accreditation coupled with the Investors in People recognition confirms the quality of education one can expect at REGAL." commented Samithamby Hariraman, Principal.
All colleges
accredited by BAC have been thoroughly inspected by BAC's team of some 70
specialist inspectors-many of them former members of Her Majesty's Inspectorate,
others senior academics or practitioners. Accredited institutions are subject
to a full inspection every five years, and an interim inspection during the
intervening period. During an inspection, institutions are graded in five
areas:
" premises and health and safety
" administration and staffing
" quality management
" student welfare
" teaching and learning: delivery and resources
.
The inspectors pay particular attention to the needs of overseas students
during an inspection (SOURCE: BAC website).
Inspection Report Summary:
Regal International College was first inspected by the British Accreditation Council for Independent Further and Higher Education in March 2003.
BAC's inspectors considered that the College provided a good service to its students. Although the College premises were relatively small, they were well equipped and well organised. The College was very well managed, with good monitoring of student progress, and ample support given to individual students. Teaching was of a uniformly high standard. Students were very complimentary about the quality of their learning experiences and the accessibility and helpfulness ofteachers in responding to questions and problems.
Regal International College was awarded accreditation in April 2003.
18th December 2002 Regal International College is recognised as an Investor in People
Regal International College (REGAL) has been recognised as an Investor in People organisation after achieving the standard on 16 December 2002. REGAL embraces a commitment to training and development and looks forward to the bottom-line benefits that improved people performance delivers.
REGAL is engaged in the delivery of quality education, training and consultancy services. In a rapidly changing technological environment it is critical that their staff continually update their knowledge and skills so that their customers are delivered quality. A structured development plan, that accurately identifies the training and development needs of the staff, is vital. The process towards the recognition by Investor in People gave REGAL this structure and already resulted in increased staff morale.
"We are fully committed to developing staff skills in order to achieve our wider business aims and objectives in the education and training sector. We have used the Investors in People planning process to address our needs and have now implemented a training and development programme. We will consistently evaluate this to ensure our staff has the most up-to-date skills in order that we build on our success." commented Samithamby Hariraman, Principal.
Ruth Spellman, Chief Executive of Investors in People UK comments, "Putting people development at the heart of every function is the most cost-effective decision a business can ever make. Employees are central to business success so it is vital for staff to be skilled, flexible and motivated; this can be achieved through planned and consistent training and development. The Investors in People framework ensures that if you look after your inputs the outputs will look after themselves."
The standard is based on four key principles for people development: commitment to develop employees to achieve business goals and targets; planning to review training and development needs required in context of the business; action to assure relevant steps are taken to meet training and development needs; and evaluation to measure the outcomes of training and development for individuals and the organisation.
Research conducted among recognised Investor in People organisations has shown that 80 percent have increased levels of consumer satisfaction and 70 percent have improved their competitive edge and productivity. (Source: Building Capability for the 21st century. CREATE 1999)
