| The OCR Level 2 National certificate in Health and social Care has been developed to recognise candidates’ skills, knowledge and understanding of the Health and social care sector and the settings, job roles, principles and values involved. It accredits candidates’ abilities to carry out a range of tasks and has been designed to accredit candidates’ achievements in a modern and practical way that is relevant to the work place. It does not certificate competence on the job but is a work-related qualification that will support progression to an NVQ once a candidate is in the work place. |

| This qualification is typically, although not exclusively aimed at 16- 19 year olds in full- time further education, which are seeking a career in health and social care or wishing to further their studies at level 2 of the National Qualifications Framework (NQF). | This qualification
specifically aims to: • Develop candidates’ knowledge and understanding of Health and Social Care. • Develop candidates’ skills, knowledge and understanding in contexts that are directly relevant to employment situations, thereby enhancing their employability within the health and social care sector. • Develop candidates’ ability to work effectively in a health and social care sector. • Enable candidates to demonstrate knowledge and understanding in specialist areas of health and social care and demonstrate the skills to participate in real situations. • Encourage progression by assisting into the development of skills, knowledge and understanding that will need to access further education opportunities or occupational training on a full-time or part-time basis. • Promote interaction between employers, centres and candidates by relating teaching and assessment to real settings. |

| The course is
delivered through: 360 taught/ contact hours for Certificate level for 4 mandatory and 2 optional units, over 9 months or one academic year. 720 taught/ contact hours for Diploma level for 4 mandatory and 8 optional units, over 18 months or over an academic year. 1080 taught/ contact hours for Extended Diploma for 4 mandatory and 14 optional units, over two academic years. |

| Entry requirements | ||||||||||||||
| This qualification is available to anyone who has completed Level 1 or is capable of reaching the required standards. It has been developed free from any barriers that restrict access or progressions thereby promoting equal opportunities. | ||||||||||||||

are four mandatory units: Unit 1 – Preparing to give quality care Unit 2- Communicating with service users in care settings Unit 3- Practical caring Unit 4- Hygiene and safety in care settings The optional units offered/suggested by Regal: Unit 8- Preparing to work with young children. | All the assessments
are centre-assessed and externally moderated by OCR. All units are graded: pass, merit, distinction, fail. Full award certificates will be graded: pass, merit, distinction. |

achieving OCR Level 3 National Certificate in Health and Social care
may: On completion of level 3, candidates are eligible to pursue a degree level study at a university to achieve a full UK degree. |
